ladies and gentlemen...the english edition! enjoy it...

Middle Ages: lick his plates clean!

Walking'n talking leaves his borders to taste a savoury Middle Ages beyond the Alps.

It has a tasty programme indeed: 3 days packed with Austrian medieval culinary art and a little bit of fantasy, of course, just to dive in the medieval atmosphere. The stage chosen for the big occasion makes everything easier: Friesach, a delicious village hidden among Carinthia Mountains, best known for its numerous castles and churches considered as a stoned storyteller and a beaten track to understand its history as well. A medieval track, of course, present and future times at the same moment, due to a large variety of projects focused on preservation, as well as on techniques, best practices and ancient tastes. Let them pass down from generation to generation is its purpose. The village offers a wide range of possibilities: a good starting point will be the culinary art in Middle Ages, tasting a chivalry meal, and carrying on with a guided tour following the Arald or the city night guard. A castle building site, based on a craftmanskill pretty forgotten, will be a worthing ending point.

This year CrossCulTour summer school has zoomed in medieval culinary art. Academic lectures from different backgrounds tell us about habits and culinary matches perfect for being heated during a cold Austrian winter in 1275. Voilà a funny misunderstanding in an all inclusive package: for the sake of our tongues, the “praktik” lecture was not about cooking with our hands, but aiming at filling our stomachs! Savoury daily findings addressed to a fairly international team who take the chance offered in order to exchange feelings and sharing experiences, stories and ancient practices from a far away period which is still alive whenever we wanted to. Next Summer school edition will focus on symbolism and Gurk will be the stunning scenario for it.
